Usage for Claude & every AI

Know exactly how much
AI you have left.

MeterTab lives in your menu bar and shows your real-time token usage, spend, limits and resets — across Claude Code, the Anthropic & OpenAI APIs, Cursor, Codex and more. It’s the only usage meter your AI agents can talk to.

The killer feature

Your agents can ask how much budget is left.

MeterTab ships a built-in MCP server. Point your coding agent at it and it can read your live budget mid-run — then downshift the model, or pause, before you hit the wall. No more “you’ve reached your limit” in the middle of a task.

  • get_budget — how much of the window is left, right now
  • should_continue — a yes/no the agent can branch on
  • Runs inside the app over stdio — no server, no socket, no key to leak
What you get

One glance. The whole picture.

MeterTab reads your AI tools’ own local logs (and, if you add a key, exact billing) and turns them into a meter you actually understand.

Live usage gauge

The 5-hour and weekly windows as a single “% used” ring, with the exact time to reset ticking down.

Burn velocity

Tokens- and requests-per-minute, smoothed, so you can feel when a run is about to eat your window.

90-day heatmap

A GitHub-style history of your activity and spend. See your habits, your heavy days, your streaks.

Per-model cost

A breakdown of where the money goes, by model and provider — Opus vs. Haiku vs. GPT, at a glance.

Exact billing, optional

Add your own provider API key and MeterTab pulls real dollar spend from Anthropic, OpenAI & OpenRouter.

Questions

How does it know my usage without an account?

MeterTab reads the log files your AI CLIs already write on your Mac (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor). You grant a folder once; it’s read-only and never leaves your device. For exact dollar figures you can optionally add a provider API key, stored in the Keychain.

What is the “agents can talk to it” part?

MeterTab exposes a local MCP server. Add it to your agent and it can call get_budget / should_continue mid-task to downshift models or pause before hitting a limit — so a long run survives your window instead of dying halfway.

Which providers are supported?

Claude Code (first-class), the Anthropic and OpenAI APIs, OpenRouter, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, Groq and Together AI. The free tier tracks up to two; Pro is unlimited.

Is it really a one-time purchase?

Yes. One non-consumable in-app purchase, no subscription, and it’s a Universal Purchase — buy it once and it unlocks on your Mac, iPhone and Watch under the same Apple ID. There’s a 14-day free trial.

Do my keys or usage ever leave my Mac?

No. There is no MeterTab backend. Keys live in the Keychain (this-device-only). The only data that syncs to your iPhone/Watch is token counts and percentages, over your private iCloud — never keys or message content.

What are the requirements?

macOS 14 Sonoma or later for the Mac app; iOS 17 / watchOS 10 for the companions. Universal (Apple Silicon & Intel).
